PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Clinical Therapist supports students using a short-term, goal-directed, stepped care model. Clinical duties include - intake, crisis and short-term counseling, and consultation/triage for students presenting with personal and/or psychological issues. As such, this position will further our work with marginalized students as we better understand the lived experiences of Black and racialized students on this campus, specifically by developing and providing culturally informed outreach and prevention mental health services that support the needs of Black & Racialized students.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have:
• Social Worker (Master’s level), Registered Psychotherapist (Master’s level), Psychological Associate, or Psychologist registered in the province of Ontario (or eligible for registration) and have related work experience (2 years)
• Identifies as Black and has experience delivering culturally competent interventions, including supporting Black and racialized students who have experienced oppression, and racism
• Demonstrated and strong commitment to social justice and issues of diversity
• Knowledge, sensitivity and understanding of the social, political, personal, and cross-cultural needs, concerns and interests of Black communities.
• Minimum two years demonstrated experience, skill, and interest in providing counselling, crisis assessment and management, and related services to post-secondary-aged students for a variety of mental health conditions (e.g., mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, suicidal ideation, etc.)
• Excellent listening skills, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, integrity, discretion, and diplomacy
• Experience working calmly and effectively, maintaining a positive and professional attitude while working in stressful situations with a variety of individuals
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work independently as well as a team player
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize workload
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous work experience in a postsecondary student counselling services setting
